Fond du Lac school officials are considering major upgrades to Fruth Memorial Athletic field, including the installation of artificial turf.  The school board discussed the idea during a workshop session Monday night.  Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says plans call for updating lighting and sound systems, building a community pavilion,  and installing an artificial turf athletic field that would be used for football and soccer.  “What we’re talking about now is some additional upgrades that would make Fruth Field, its already a jewel, but it would make it probably the premier destination not only in Fond du Lac but in the state of Wisconsin,”  Sebert told WFDL news.  Because the field would be larger to accommodate soccer, the track would be removed.    Sebert says the initial cost estimate to do all of the upgrades is in the neighborhood of $1.5 to $1.9 million.  Sebert says the project would be paid for through donations, but says he will ask the school board for permission to borrow the money up front from the district fund balance.  The school board did the same thing to build a new million dollar entrance to the field .   The district is still trying to raise the remaining $450,000 to pay for that.
