2-11-16 assembly approves sex offender restrictions bill

The state Assembly has approved a bill creating uniform restrictions on where violent sex offenders can live.  The bill’s author, state Representative Mark Born of Beaver Dam, says the measure would bar violent sex offenders from living within 1,500 feet of any school, day care,  youth center, church or public park anywhere in the state.  If the sec offender committed a crime against a child, he couldn’t live next door to a child.  The bill was drafted after two violent sex offenders were initially placed in a home in Dodge County next to a residence where children live.    A judge later rescinded the placement order.  Born says local ordinances would generally remain enforceable.
