The state Senate has voted for a bill that would give libraries more power to collect overdue fines. The measure would create exceptions to privacy laws protecting borrowers’ identities so libraries could report them to collection agencies and police. Fond du Lac Library director Jon Mark Bolthouse says the bill would provide libraries with clarification on what steps can be taken to reclaim overdue materials. Waupun library director Bret Jaeger says it’s a common sense clarification of the law.
