2-25-16 wayside tavern fire-update

The state Fire Marshal has been called and Fond du lac police detectives are investigating, but fire investigators say at this point there is nothing to indicate a fire that destroyed a popular west side Fond du Lac bar is suspicious.  The fire early Wednesday morning destroyed the Wayside Tavern, just across the railroad tracks on West Division Street.  Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says dozens of firefighters from several area departments assisted at the scene.  “Twelve fire departments and about 50 firefighters on the scene,”  Haase told WFDL news.  Haase says the bar owner was not aware of any potential cause.  “I talked to him right away when I got here and I asked him if he knew of anything that could possibly be an issue and he said nope.  He said he closed down, walked around, checked everything, locked all the doors and he hadn’t had any issues in the building.”   Haase says the Wayside was a popular spot for Friday night fish fry over the years.
