3-19-16 fdl judge denies defense motion in fdl county cold case murder

A Fond du Lac judge has denied another motion by the attorney for an over the road trucker from Kenosha charged in a cold case murder in Fond du lac County.   At a hearing this week the defense attorney for  Dennis Brantner made a motion to allow third party liability evidence that a West Bend man, Craig Hron, may have killed Berit Beck.   But  after listening to the defense argument and reviewing the response submitted by the prosecution, Judge Gary Sharpe, denied the motion.  The judge said no reasonable jury could conclude that Hron perpetrated the crime.  Brantner is scheduled to go on trial this summer in the 1990 murder of  Beck.  Police say the 18 year old Sturdevant teenager was abducted in the Forest Mall parking lot and her body was found about a month later in a roadside ditch near Waupun.  Brantner was arrested after tests matched his fingerprints to prints found in Beck’s van.
