3-26-16 dairy owner scraps plans for massive goat farm

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The owner of a dairy that wanted to build the nation’s largest goat farm in Jefferson County says those plans have been scrapped.  Co-owner Kenn Buelow said Drumlin Dairy now has a verbal deal in place to buy land in a different county.  Buelow declined to identify the location, but he says the deal involves 35 acres for an operation that would address the state’s goat milk shortage and bolster its flourishing goat-cheese industry.  The planned 9,000-goat operation would need to meet approval standards, but Buelow says he expects it to open early next year.  The proposal faced skepticism from Jefferson County residents who were concerned it could create health hazards, odor and traffic problems.
