2-28-17 fdl school superintendent says district has no legal recourse over failing gym floor

The Fond du Lac School superintendent says the District has no legal recourse as it looks to replace the high school gym floor at a cost that could be in the neighborhood of $350,000.  Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says the floor started failing only a couple years after it was installed 16 years ago.  It’s unfortunate,”  Sebert told WFDL news.  ” A gym floor like that, just use Riverside (Elementary) as an example.  Up until the (2008) flood that floor had been in there 41 years and that floor would still be there.  Floors should last for decades.”    Sebert says the district has been replacing damaged hardwood slats every year since 2003 but now its time to replace the entire floor for safety reasons.   Sebert says the district is also replacing the high school tennis courts.  “There we have a water issue where water was going underneath instead of going around,”  Sebert said.  The school board discussed the gym floor in a workshop session Monday night and toured the fieldhouse to get a first hand look at the condition of the floor.
