1-12-18 teacher protection act hearing

A legislative committee held a public hearing Thursday on a bill designed  to give teachers more protection in the classroom.   Fond du Lac Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt  says the Teacher Protection Act  would allow teachers to remove a student from the classroom.  The measure would also allow teachers to ask school boards to suspend students if administrators refuse to do it.  The bill would require police to notify school administrators whenever a student is arrested for a violent crime and require the student’s teacher be notified within 24 hours of the incident.  Fond du Lac school superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert questions if the bill is necessary.  Sebert says he hasn’t talked with a teacher who says they are afraid of certain kids in their classroom.
