3-14-18 wi farmers union hosting fdl program on canadian dairy supply management program

A Canadian dairy farmer is visiting Wisconsin this week to share his perspective on the controversial Canada dairy supply management program.   The Wisconsin Farmers Union has organized  five forums around the state including one in Fond du Lac.  Vernon County dairy farmer and Farmers Union president, Darin Von Ruden says the system in Canada is not perfect, but is a “heck of a lot better”  than what is in place here.  The Farmers Union is one of at least five dairy organizations expressing support for creating a supply management system similar to what Canada has in the U.S.  That puts them at odds with the main national milk lobby and U.S. government position, which has worked for years to weaken Canadian supply management.  The Fond du Lac forum is being held from 11:30am to 2:30pm Wednesday at the Fond du Lac Holiday Inn.  You can pre-register at wisconsinfarmersunion.com
