4-20-18 stop the bleed

Agnesian HealthCare and Fond du lac first responders are teaming up to help teach people how to save lives by stopping the bleeding when someone is injured.      The “Stop the Bleed”  campaign was launched in 2015 following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting massacre.   Assistant Fire Chief Jim Knowles says in Fond du Lac the program will provide training initially to first responders and schools and then the general public.   “Its not just centered around violent situations within our schools,”  Knowles told WFDL news.  “Anyone that’s injured in an automobile accident or if they get cut while working sawing wood in a shop and someone is trained to do the right interventions we can control the potential of that person dying by simple bleeding control measures.”   Knowles says bystanders can be trained to stop bleeding with pressure, packing and tourniquets.  St. Agnes Hospital Emeregency Department team members will offer training.  The program also encourages the placement of bleeding control kits, containing dressings and tourniquets in public locations.
