1-24-19 fdl police asking for stiffer penalties for “swatting” incidents

The Fond du Lac police department says a recent  “swatting” incident is more than just a harmless prank.   A Fond du Lac man was arrested after making a false  911 call last week that a man was holding a woman hostage at gunpoint.  Assistant police chief Steve Klein says in this latest case police were able to track the cellphone call using GPS technology.  A 27 year old Fond du Lac man is charged with disorderly conduct  and Klein says  the legislature needs to look at making the penalty more severe.  “That is something that was frustrating to us last Friday evening as we were looking at the appropriate charges,”  Klein told WFDL news.  “We’re kind of limited as to what we can charge a person with in these types of situations.”
