2-15-19 colorado man going to prison in dodge county serious injury crash

A Colorado man has been sentenced to prison for a serious injury crash in Dodge County.   Judge Brian Pfitzinger sentenced 28 year old Steven Cummings of  Loveland, Colorado, to  six years in prison with an additional four years of extended supervision and ordered  Cummings to pay nearly $19,000 in restitution to the victim.  Authorities say  on August 13, 2017, Cummings was operating a vehicle involved in a rollover crash that seriously injured a passenger.  Cummings was driving with unregistered plates, no insurance and without a valid driver’s license and speeding  20 – 30 miles over the speed limit when he attempted to check his cell phone, veered off the road, hit the curb and flipped the car.   One of the passengers suffered numerous broken bones, the loss of his toes and a permanent loss of sight.  District Attorney Kurt  Klomberg commented that Cummings is a long-term drug abuser with an untreated addiction.   He had alcohol, marijuana and cocaine in his system at the time of the crash.  “People like Cummings present a substantial risk to the public, especially when they’re high and behind the wheel of a car.”
