2-22-19 fdl lead pipe replacement

Fond du lac city officials are looking for new avenues to help homeowners continue to replace lead service lines.   The city has been using Safe Drinking Water loans to assist homeowners with the cost of replacing the portion of the pipe that runs from the street to the home.  Public Works director Jordan Skiff says the city council will be asked to amend the City’s ordinance to allow water utility fund dollars be used, when the Safe Drinking Water loan program expires sometime next year.  “We’re proposing that we change the ordinance to allow that,”  Skiff told WFDL news.  “We would probably add some language to the ordinance to account for the possibility of state or federal funds also being available to help private owners.”  Governor Tony Evers announced last week his groundwater protection plan that also would include money to assist with lead pipe replacement.
