6-14-19 fdl fire chief says thoughts and prayers are with family and department of madison firefighter

The Fond du Lac Fire Chief says his thoughts and prayers are with the family and department of a Madison firefighter who died competing in a triathlon over the weekend.   Thirty eight year old Todd Mahoney died Tuesday after being pulled from Lake Monona Sunday during the event.  Fond du Lac Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says he spoke with the Madison Fire Chief this week and expressed his condolences.  “It certainly hits home to firefighters everywhere and to be 38 years old and to have a wife and three young kids, to leave that behind, its got to be extremely tough for his friends and family to pick up the pieces and try to make sense of it,” O’Leary told WFDL news.   O’Leary says it’s  important for firefighters to lean on each other for support.  Mahoney was a nine year veteran of the department who leaves behind a wife and three young sons.
