7-22-19 ascension lutheran church and belize youth group help feed the hungry in wi

A group of 12 young people from Belize are learning that their perception of  life in the United States doesn’t always match reality.  The group was in Fond du Lac last week as guests of Ascension Lutheran Church.   Ascension has been involved in ministry work in Belize for 13 years and this year the Santa Elana Jaguar Scouts Troop from Belize is visiting the United States.  Julie Boelter with Ascension says the group was at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission and Feed My Starving Children in northern Illinois last Monday.   Friday, the group was handing out food at Broken Bread in Fond du lac.  “The biggest thing I’ve seen is these kids saying we assumed everybody had plenty to eat here in Wisconsin and they had all these things,”  Boelter told WFDL news.  “They’re looking around and we’re serving at all these different locations and learning about the needs that exist, and that’s not always the case.”    Boelter says the kids are shocked that one in ten people in Wisconsin do not know where their next meal is coming from.  Boelter says the zip code of the Milwaukee Rescue Mission is listed as the poorest in  America.
