8-20-19 back to school-preventing sports injuries

As kids get ready to head back to school and participate in fall athletics, a  local chiropractor is offering some tips to help keep your young athlete on the field rather than on the sideline.    Agnesian Healthcare chiropractor Dr. Nicholas Deer says first on the list is making sure your student athlete gets a preseason physical.   “Make sure their physicals for WIAA are up to date.  You want to make sure their bodies are able to do what they have to do for those sports,”  Dr. Deer told WFDL news.    Dr. Deer says make sure your child understands that he or she should talk with you and seek help if experiencing a pain or something that doesn’t feel right.   He says some kids push through the pain which can lead to a more serious condition.     Dr. Deer says encourage cross-training and a variety of sports so they are not continuously putting stress on the same muscles and joints.   Before beginning a physical activity make sure to stretch and warm up first.
