11-7-19 raw ground beef-salmonella outbreak

The Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer is warning residents to make sure ground beef is cooked thoroughly before eating following a recent outbreak of Salmonella.   The Salmonella outbreak found in raw beef has left eight people hospitalized and one dead in six states.   Fond du lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says so far there have been no reported cases in Wisconsin.  Mueller says with the holidays approaching its also a warning not to eat cannibal sandwiches, a Wisconsin tradition using raw ground beef.  Mueller says the CDC implores everyone to avoid undercooked or raw beef altogether.  Ground beef should reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees Farenheit.  After handling the raw meat, thoroughly wash your hands and any utensils and surfaces that came into contact with the meat.
