4-1-20 evers seeks disaster declaration as unemployment grows, two more positive covid-19 cases in fdl county

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Tony Evers has asked President Donald Trump to issue a major disaster declaration for the state of Wisconsin due to the coronavirus pandemic. The request Tuesday came as state unemployment claims hit a daily high. Also, the state’s health secretary warned lawmakers that Medicaid enrollments were going to increase dramatically. Evers said he hoped the declaration would allow the state to access critical programs to support the state’s response. The number of initial claims for unemployment benefits topped 24,600 on Monday, the highest single day total since the outbreak. There are more than 1,300 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin and 25 deaths.  There are now 24 confirmed cases in Fond du Lac County and two deaths.  Eighteen people have recovered from the virus in Fond du Lac County.
