4-2-20 senior construction advisor at michels corporation in brownsville dies from covid-19

WFDL news has learned the senior construction advisor and former senior vice president at Michels Corporation in Brownsville has died from COVID-19.    Company president and CEO Pat Michels says Robert Westphal of Fond du Lac died Tuesday evening in Naples, Florida where he has a winter home.   Michels says Westphal  had worked at Michels for nearly 55  years.    “It is our belief that the strength of his successors defines a leader’s true success,”  Michels said.   “In that regard, Bob was the best. He was selflessly devoted to improving the abilities and skills of those who worked with him.”   “Throughout the decades, I have had the privilege of calling Bob my boss, my mentor, my colleague and
my friend.   He had a major impact on me in each of those roles.”    In his career,  Westphal filled many roles, including laborer, operator, foreman, superintendent, general
superintendent, vice president, senior vice president and, at the time of his death, senior construction advisor.   Last May Westphal was inducted into the North American Society of Trenchless Technology (NASTT) Hall of Fame during the No-Dig Show in Chicago.    Four years ago  Westphal was recognized during his 50th  anniversary with the company.   Meanwhile, in Fond du Lac County Public  Health Officer Kim Mueller says there are now 26 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two deaths.  Mueller announced Tuesday there is community spread of the coronavirus in Fond du Lac County.
