5-21-20 fdl rec department reviewing summer programs amid pandemic

The Fond du Lac Recreation Department is developing safety plans as it prepares for summer programming amid the coronavirus pandemic.  Department supervisor, Renee Wagner, says while some programs are moving forward, with new guidelines, others are being cancelled.  Wagner says her office has been fielding calls from residents wondering if certain programs will be held this summer.”We are looking at them individually, pushing back some of our programs to give us a little bit more time in case there’s some changes that come from governor Evers or from the Health Department,”  Wagner told WFDL news.  As an example, tennis is being pushed back and will be limited to five kids per instructor. Wagner says her office has been in contact with youth baseball and the adult softball leagues to discuss safety plans for a shortened season.  “Adult softball league, we’re going forward with it hoping to start June first,”  Wagner said.  Wagner says plans call for the swimming pools to open at 50 percent capacity.  Wagner says all Rec Department summer family trips have been cancelled, along with the playground program,  climbing wall, gymnastics classes, and a chess camp.
