5-17-16 fdl drug drop results

Fond du Lac county law enforcement officials had 2,275 pounds or a 29% increase in 2016 of no longer needed prescriptions and over the counter medications collected and disposed of during the Spring Cleaning Drug Drop collection.  “This was a significant change for the folks we serve in Fond du Lac.  We would like to remind the public that the box has moved into the Police Department lobby at 126 N. Main Street.  Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.  It takes a little planning to stop by when you are out and about. We would like to thank the residents of our community for responding so well to the improved location of the Drug Drop Box,” stated City of Fond du Lac Chief Bill Lamb.   “This is a terrific increase in the number of no longer used medications removed from homes,” shared Amy Sebert Aurora Health Care and Chair of the DFC Opioid Initiative Prevention Pillar. “By removing these drugs we prevent abuse and misuse in our community.”    The Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County, with the support of law enforcement, school districts, media partners and healthcare systems worked diligently to get the word out about this opportunity to clean out one’s medicine cabinet.  The Drug Drop boxes offer a convenient method of disposing of unwanted or expired prescription medications.   “Each of us can make a difference by taking responsibility for monitoring our medicine cabinets, taking medication as prescribed and using the Drug Drop box for safe disposal.” commented Kim Mueller, Public Health Officer for Fond du Lac County and Chair of the DFC Opioid Initiative Harm Reduction Pillar. “Not having those drugs available reduces potential harm such as an accidental overdose.” For more information, call the Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County at (920) 906-6700 Ext. 4704 or visit www.drugfreefdl.com and click on Drug Drop.
