5-17-16 johnson backpeddles on 9-11 comments

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson says he “absolutely” wasn’t comparing his re-election campaign with the 9/11 attacks when he talked about the bravery of people aboard United Flight 93.   Johnson’s been explaining himself in  interviews since remarks Saturday at the Wisconsin Republican Party convention. Johnson marveled at how passengers took a vote before storming the cabin to fight the 9/11 hijackers, forcing the plane to crash. He said the November election vote “may not be life and death, like the vote passengers on United Flight 93 took, but boy is it consequential.”   He said that he was talking about 9/11 in terms of passengers’ heroism. He says, “I’m just trying to make sure we all understand what’s at stake in this election is very consequential.”
