5-24-16 fdl county register of deeds race

There will be a primary contest for at least one Fond du Lac County elected office.  Register of Deeds Shawn Kelly and deputy Register of Deeds Jim Krebs, will square off in the August primary election.  Kelly was appointed by governor Scott Walker in August of 2013 to fill the vacancy created by the death of Patricia Kraus.  Before the appointment Kelly served 16 years as the UW Oshkosh comptroller.  “I’m the most qualified candidate.  I think I’ve been vetted and I think my three years has proven that,”  Kelly told WFDL news.  “We’ve taken that office from a lot of paper and we’ve continued to move forward into the electronic age.  The wheels were spinning before I was there and I think to continue this progress I need to be there.”    Krebs was appointed deputy by Kraus and was the interim Register of Deeds when he also applied for the post in 2013.  “The most qualified person should always get the job.  I felt very qualified, very knowledgeable,”  Krebs told WFDL news.  “The Register of Deeds Office requires someone with extensive knowledge  of real estate documents and a deep appreciation for how those records are used.  I have those skills.”     Krebs says while he doesn’t know for sure, he thinks he maybe didn’t get the appointment because he signed papers to recall governor Walker.  “I can’t say with any definitive certainty.  It could have played a role.”
