7-9-20 knee high by the fourth of july

There’s the old adage used by farmers “knee high by the fourth of July”  to measure the success of their crops by Independence Day.   Fond du Lac County Crops and Soils Agent Joe Zimbrik says things look great this summer after wet weather delayed last year’s planting.   Zimbrik says on many Fond du Lac County fields the corn crop is more like waist high or chest high.  Zimbrik says right now if everything stays on track it looks like a bumper crop.  But he says the other issue for farmers is commodity prices.  He says until just recently those prices have been dismal.
