9-11-20 trump comments toward military divide veterans and military families

Veterans and military families are divided about reports that president Donald Trump made disparaging comments toward the military.   Some service members bristle at the remarks and others question whether they happened.   Fond du Lac County Veterans Service Officer Rick Patton says at this point he doesn’t know what to think, but says after reading the article it doesn’t look good for the president.  Patton says he has been cynical about reports in the media and social media, especially regarding politics this close to an election.  But he says if this is true “it does sour a lot of veterans.”   Patton acknowledges that Trump did make disparaging remarks about the late senator John McCain because he was captured during the Vietnam War.  “That was wrong of the president, that was outright wrong,”  Patton told WFDL news.   “John McCain, he was a hero.”   A survey last year found that veterans were more supportive of Trump than the general public.
